“A well-tied tie is the first serious step in life.” — Oscar Wilde

Well, we agree with Oscar Wilde on this. The tie is an essential component of any kind of formal attire. The kind of tie a man wears and the way in which he wears it, says a lot about the man.

While you can always experiment with the fabrics, patterns, and thickness of a tie, an alternative way to make a tie stand out is by varying the knot itself. A unique tie knot sets you apart from the rest and shows that you take your dressing seriously.

Tying one of the unique knots may seem like a lot of extra work but a little practice is all it takes. Here are four great tie knots to try:

1) Merovingian Knot:
Before you ask, no, this knot has no connection with the Matrix movie trilogy. Originally called as the Ediety, this tie knot is very elegant and intricate and actually looks like your tie knot is wearing a little tie. Save this one for a special occasion as putting it together can get quite difficult; save the effort an exclusive evening. Wear it with with a wide-spread ‘English’ collar shirt. Cover it up with a blazer, coat or suit to highlight the knot and cover the ends.

Here’s a short video that illustrates how to tie it:

2) Aperture Knot:
As the name suggests, this knot looks like the aperture of a camera and quite fittingly, looks great in photographs. With its circular shape, it’s the perfect choice for the addition of a brooch or other embellishment. This knot works well with patterned ties in bold colours. It is perfect for weddings and other formal occasions.

3) Truelove Knot:
An extravagantly finished product which can sometimes resemble a heart, a cross or a T-shape, the Truelove knot is great for celebratory occassions. This knot is a very complicated to tie and requires a considerable practice. It consumes a lot of fabric so go for an extra-long tie. Pick a narrow tie with flexible fabric for this knot and wear it with well-fitted vests, suits, and cardigans. Striped ties can achieve impressive effects with this knot!

4) Trinity Knot:
Stand tall, smile and be prepared to accept loads of compliments when you sport a tie with the relatively recently innovated trinity knot. This tie knot works best with a classic or narrow spread (point) collar as opposed to a widespread collar, and is a great confidence booster. Go with patterned ties or ties with small stripes for this knot. It might look complicated, but it’s not.

Here’s what you need to do:
So go ahead, challenge yourself and try out these knots. After all, it’s “knot” a do or tie situation!

Alright Grooms, your one job is done - this is where you're going to get your suit. I would highly recommend the Suit Concierge and their team Hemant and Aldo. You can tell both men love suits, their jobs and the tailoring profession. Their knowledge, skills and professionalism are unmatched. Skip the Tailors who spend more on marketing and come here, where their work speaks for itself. The suits were beautiful and fit everyone perfectly. I could not imagine a better experience than what I had received from the Suit Concierge.

Keep meaning to leave a review. The team make sure to take their time and really make sure you are comfortable and happy with the tailoring. They did alterations to both my partners full suit and my dress for a wedding we are attending. The dress was a bit of an awkward one to alter and they gave me options, and also had me try on after tailoring to make any additional changes. My partners suit looks better than we expected, initially only thought to hem bottoms but the suggestions for suit jacket look so good. Just all round positive experience, lovely team, calm atmosphere to the place. Would give 6 stars if possible. 😊

I received impeccable friendly service from Hemant and the team at The Suit Concierge, and I would highly recommend them to anyone considering a bespoke suit. Hemant carefully went through my options for a suit alteration and was very upfront about pricing before proceeding. The pricing was very reasonable and I received an extremely well altered suit well ahead of the agreed timeframe. I won't hesitate to visit again when I am looking for a suit in future. Thanks again Hemant!

Although I haven't had a custom piece made at TSG, I've been here several times for alterations. Hemant always does an excellent job with a keen eye for detail - pointing out things I wouldn't notice or think of while also showing a real difference rather than forcing an upsell. I'm impressed by the quality of work and efficient turnaround times, and will be returning for custom pieces in the near future!
